Welcome friends and visitors to
the 2016 Great Northern Arts Festival!
Every summer for the past 28 years, folks have gathered in the vibrant town of Inuvik to celebrate the diverse artistic traditions of the North.
With their talent and art, carvers, painters, traditional artists, jewelers, fashion designers and multimedia artists transform our Recreation Complex into a world-class art exhibition.
The visitors are drawn to the festival, not only because of the uniqueness of the area, but because of the uniqueness of the festival. They come to celebrate with us the rich history of the event and marvel at the brilliant artwork. They travel from far and wide to interact with the artists and spend time in workshops, learning firsthand the intricacies and painstaking attention to detail that goes into every item in the Gallery.
Dedicated Staff and Volunteers work tirelessly to help foster this dream into a reality. They come together for the 10-day festival and work long, hard hours to make sure every detail is arranged and every puzzle piece fits together.
But then, there is the community. Without the support of the community, all these puzzle pieces would never fall into place.
The Great Northern Arts Festival only works because of the passion and dedication of all involved.
That is how we came up with this year’s theme: Connectedness. As a wise artist said at last year’s festival, “You are here because of me, and I am here because of you.”
Together, we create this festival and this festival is what connects us.
Thank you for being a part of this intricate web of artists, staff, volunteers and visitors, all working together to promote Northern art since 1989.
